Rebelation + Smoke Like A Fish + The Dirty Stop-Outs at The Portland Arms

    26/05/17 to 26/05/17 - 19:30 to 23:00 - £8 entry

LAST GANG IN TOWN present REBELATION + SMOKE LIKE A FISH + THE DIRTY STOP-OUTS REBELATION – Rebelation are a UK based band who play authentic Reggae, Traditional Ska and Rocksteady. Formed in 1994, their initial sound was heavily influenced by the likes of The Clash, Specials & The Beat, plus Jah Shaka and the other big English dub reggae sound systems of the time. Through the passage of time and with many line up developments, their sound is more refined and authentic. Their traditional Ska is influenced by the Skatalites and the like. The reggae and rocksteady is influenced by the Treasure Isle and Studio 1 stable of the late sixties/early seventies. That said, the influence of the modern Jamaican sound is present and Rebelation do not consider themselves as a revival or retro band but as a modernist and progressor of the reggae sound. Over the years, the band have shared stages with acts such as The Slackers, Bad Manners, Laurel Aitken, Neville Staple, The Selecter, Snuff, Asian Dub Foundation and Zion Train. Rebelation have crafted their signature sound through a powerful horn section, harmony rich male and female vocals, and a super tight rhythm section. Their catchy song writing and an irresistible groove will ensure the dancefloor is packed all night. Rebelation have travelled well over the years mashing up venues in towns and cities not just in the UK but in Europe too, building up a loyal following along the way and putting themselves in the forefront of the well established UK ska scene. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Rebelation/325369840833247 http://www.facebook.com/rebelationuk/app/178091127385 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhmuNO5Mzg0 SMOKE LIKE A FISH – With an up tempo two-toned Ska-popunkish attack, Smoke like a Fish from Mid Wales relentlessly pump the off beat with groove and aggression, behind brass splattered riffs, catchy choruses and social comment. http://www.facebook.com/groups/35967933504 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mj0hMd0hH8g http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REy4N-Z3Q-U http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30RZ10_jMwg THE DIRTY STOP-OUTS - Formed in March 2016, The Dirty Stop-Outs are a high energy, skankin' Cambridge-based ska/punk/dub/experimental band. Brand new but boasting members from Freedom Faction, Inter-City Crazy Train, Murder Ballads & Bastard Squad, The Dirty Stop-Outs have only just begun and have been getting Cambridge moving their feet in fine fashion. http://www.facebook.com/thedirtystopoutsuk LAST GANG IN TOWN DJs – Ska, Reggae & Punk http://www.facebook.com/LastGangInTownUK Advance tickets available: http://theportlandarms.co.uk/wp/product/rebelation-smoke-like-a-fish-27th-may/
