The Boathouse posted on 2 September 2011

The Boathouse on Chesterton Road has been one of the most popular riverside pub locations in Cambridge for many years. In the summer of 2011 a new management team took over the pub and decided it was time for a few improvements.

The Boathouse is a large building, situated next to the River Cam just off Mitcham’s Corner and a short walk across the bridge at Jesus Green.  With such a great building and location to work with the new team decided that a refurbishment would be a great place to start, by brightening up the interior and adding a fresh face to the pub. The refurbishment now boasts a wonderfully light and airy open-plan finish, which can best be described as having a Modern-Vintage décor. When you first walk into the pub you instantly get a feel that The Boathouse has been transformed into one of the most inviting riverside pubs in Cambridge.

The Boathouse refurbishment has also included a newly improved tiered terrace garden, the largest in Cambridge in fact. With such a stunning riverside location, the terrace area is one of the real highlights of the newly improved pub.

During the warmer months of the year The Boathouse now offers regular Barbeque nights on the terrace which include live acoustic music sets from some of the most talented local musicians around - what better way to spend an evening than relaxing on the terrace, enjoying a pint from one of The Boathouse’s superb selection of five real ales, eating home-cooked food and being serenaded by the sounds of laid back guitar playing!

The Boathouse has also improved its menu, offering a great selection of pub classics – you’ll find all the dishes you’d hope for on the menu including a number of sharing plates and classic starters such as the Nacho Sharer and the delicious Burger Platter. Mains include a mouth-watering selection of Steaks & Sizzlers and Big Plate Specials including Hunter’s Chicken, the Mixed Grill and Surf & Turf  - as well as the not so classic dishes including Chinese Chicken Noodles, the Mexican Chilli Basket the Roasted Chicken Jalfrezi.

There is also a number of great sharing offers of the week available at The Boathouse, including 2 Meals for £9.95 from Monday to Saturday as well as specific Chef’s Special’s nights.

Depending on which day of the week you visit The Boathouse, you’ll find different delicious deals available – from Monday to Saturday (12:00-17:00) you can order a Burger & a Pint from £6.99 and on Tuesday’s the grill fires are burning brightly for Steak Night - Thursday Night from 17:00 is Curry Night, with Curry & a Pint available for £7.49. Fish & Chips specials are available all day on Friday, offering two meals for £9.99 and what better way to round off the week than with a Roast Dinner, available all day on Sunday for £5.99.

As well as being a great place to catch up with friends and enjoy a bite to eat - The Boathouse is fast becoming known for its live events, held upstairs in their function room. Throughout the week and into the weekends The Boathouse offer a number of live gigs, including a weekly Jam Session on Wednesday nights, The Big Band Night on Fridays and Saturdays and the BadKat Comedy Night once a month. The function room has its own bar and plenty of room to enjoy all kinds of live entertainment and is also available for private hire.

With such a great space available in the heart of the city, The Boathouse function room is perfect for private parties (up to 60 guests), special occasions, private business meetings and with tailor made parties available, including a buffet table and music, the function room is a great place to hold your Christmas Party – don’t forget to book early!

With so many great new additions to The Boathouse, the team are really enjoying welcoming new faces to the pub and watching it become one of the most popular live entertainment venues in Cambridge.
