Hills Road Sports & Tennis Centre posted on 1 October 2013

Hills Road Sports & Tennis Centre prides itself on its friendly and relaxed atmosphere and welcomes everyone who visits the Centre. The centre has been open since September 1996 and has established itself as a popular, cost-effective and high-quality facility that is open to everyone!

The centre’s location on Purbeck Road (off Hills Road), adjacent to Hills Road Sixth Form College, makes it ideally placed to serve the local community.

You can beat the rush hour and go in for a pre- or post-work gym session, arrange a lunchtime squash match with a colleague, meet new people through their social badminton sessions or even use the facilities at the weekend with your family or friends.

Hills Road Sports and Tennis Centre gives the opportunity for local people to play tennis on high-specification indoor and outdoor courts. In addition to tennis, the centre’s wide range of sporting activities ranges from badminton and squash to five-a-side football, basketball, and much more.

The centre is the regional home of the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), providing an opportunity for tennis stars of the future to train and receive the encouragement and support they need in a friendly environment. Young people can also benefit from holiday programmes and even parties at the centre.

The fitness suite at the centre offers casual rates to users with no hidden joining fees. Individual, family and corporate membership discounts are also available at the centre.

Membership of Hills Road Sports and Tennis Centre is optional. However, the benefits are twofold. Firstly, members can book activities at the centre up to seven days in advance, whilst non-members can book up to three days beforehand. Secondly, the price of activities at the Centre is roughly 25% cheaper for members. The centre’s ‘pay as you play’ feature is unusual in Cambridge, allowing users to simply telephone in advance and book a slot (subject to availability).

In addition, it only needs one person in a family or group of friends to be a member for the member’s rate to apply, as long as the member turns up for the booking. Please view the website for full details of the different membership options and prices

These rates change annually on 1st August, so see their website for full membership prices.

The centre’s opening hours are from Monday to Friday 07:00 – 22:30, 08:00 – 21:00 at weekends and 09:00 – 17:00 on Bank Holidays. The centre is closed on Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day & New Year's Day (for further details of opening hours during the Christmas period please contact the Centre).

For customers with physical disabilities, wheelchair access is provided at ground-floor level to the sports hall, the indoor tennis courts, the squash court, the cricket projectile hall and the fitness suite. The first floor gallery and tennis balcony are easily accessible by lift. In addition a number of dedicated courses are available, covering sports such as aerobics and tennis, and the centre is amenable to requests for other specialist classes.
